The National Organization for Marriage
(NOM) has launched another attack against New York State Senators
Mark Grisanti, Roy McDonald, Stephen Saland and James Alesi for their
votes in favor of a gay marriage law.
NOM, the nation's most vociferous
opponent of marriage equality, is delivering on its promise to work
against the reelection bids of any Republican who voted for the law,
which went into effect in July.
A billboard located in McDonald's
district reads: “Roy McDonald, You're Fired!”
“This is not going to end,” NOM
President Brian Brown told
the New
York Daily News. “This is what this campaign is going to
be from here on out. We are not going to rest until the people of
this state get a vote.”
Brown added that the group is spending
about $40,000 on billboards aimed at the four Republicans.
A Grisanti spokesman brushed aside the
attacks: “People need to get over it because the simple fact is
that everyone should enjoy the same rights. This just rolls off our
back.”
“They are entitled to their opinion;
it is a free country,” said Mike Veitch, a spokesman for McDonald.
In June, the
group announced a 4-year plan to repeal the law. The plan hinges
on growing a majority in the Legislature to approve a constitutional
amendment for the 2015 ballot.
