It Gets Better videos featuring Barack
Obama, Michelle Obama and Joe Biden have been labeled 'disgusting' by
Family Research Council (FRC) President Tony Perkins,
RightWingWatch.org
reported.
Perkins charges the president, first
lady and vice president of participating with a “concerted effort
to persuade kids that homosexuality is okay and actually to recruit
them into that 'lifestyle'” in a fundraising letter to supporters.
The It Gets Better Project was founded
by gay activist Dan Savage. The group's website hosts thousands of
videos from everyday folks to celebrities encouraging troubled gay
teens considering suicide to hang in there, because life gets better.
The Obamas and Biden (as well as
numerous Democratic senators and representatives) recorded ads in
support of the project. (Barack Obama's video is embedded in the
right panel of this page.)
“For President Obama to use the power
of his office to promote such aims is truly appalling,” Perkins
wrote.
The videos are “aimed at persuading
kids that although they'll face struggles and perhaps bullying for
'coming out' as homosexual (or transgendered or some other
perversion), life will get better.”
“Can you imagine George Washington,
Ronald Reagan, or any other president telling school children that
it's okay to be immoral and that they'll eventually feel better about
it?”
“It's disgusting,” he added, before
giving thanks for “giving what you can and praying for FRC – and
for our nation.”
