Writer-director Joss Whedon has joined
the NOH8 Campaign, which raises awareness and funds for gay rights
causes, including ending California's 2008 voter-approved gay
marriage ban, Proposition 8.
The 47-year-old Whedon is best known
for creating the teen drama Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its
spinoff Angel. He's also the man behind Fox's Firefly
and Dollhouse.
The NOH8 Campaign, which is helmed by
photographer-activist Adam Bouska and his partner Jeff Parshley,
photographs celebrities and everyday folks with their mouths duct
taped and the campaign's familiar “NOH8” slogan often written on
one cheek.
In his photograph, Whedon is wearing a
white t-shirt and pointing at himself with one hand.
Los Angeles Chivas USA players Justin
Braun and Michael Lahoud recently posed for the NOH8 Campaign ahead
of professional
soccer's first-ever Equality Night to benefit the Los Angeles Gay &
Lesbian Center on Saturday, July 23.
And last week, the
group released a new photo of Tommy Joe Ratliff, the 29-year-old
bass guitarist for American Idol season 8 runner-up Adam
Lambert. Ratliff will also participate in the group's upcoming PSA
for Freedom to Marry's Say, I Do campaign, which
urges President Barack Obama to endorse marriage equality.
