Actress-comedian Janeane Garofalo has
joined the chorus of celebrities suggesting Minnesota Rep. Michele
Bachmann's husband, Marcus, is gay.
Garofalo made her remarks during a
recent appearance on Countdown (now on Current TV).
Mr. Bachmann's Christian counseling
clinic has been accused of practicing “reparative” therapy, a
discredited pseudo-science that aims to turn gay people straight
through mostly religious means. Bachmann
has denied the claims.
“He seems to be quite gay to me,”
told host Keith Olbermann.
“He's dealing with an issue that a
lot of people who are vehemently anti-gay seem to be dealing with:
their personal demons. … We were talking about with his reparative
therapy, he's like 'You know when you're young you experiment' and so
on and so forth, and I think he was referring to himself.”
Last week, singer
Cher took to Twitter to attack the Bachmann's anti-gay views. In
one tweet, she suggested Marcus Bachmann is gay, “Boys I'm not
kidding! I'm listening 2 this >%~€¥^<<&&&&
I'm thinking GAYGAYGAYGAYGAYGAYGAYGAY Without Style!” and in
another she labeled the couple “hypocrites.”
a comedy skit that included guest star Jerry Seinfeld, The
Daily Show's Jon Stewart attempted to resist cheap Marcus
Bachmann gay jokes. In the end, neither could resist.
“Dr. Marcus Bachmann buys Brawny
paper towels for the packaging,” Seinfeld joked. “He's so gay,
Richard Simmons tells him to 'tone it down.'”
And in his latest podcast, gay
activists Dan Savage also questioned Marcus Bachmann's sexuality.
