Cyndi Lauper is the latest celebrity to
join the Human
Rights Campaign's (HRC) New Yorkers for Marriage Equality
campaign.
“It's time for our state to be a
leader in the fight for fairness,” Lauper says in her 30-second
video ad released on Tuesday.
“Besides, what business do we have
telling other people who they can marry and who they can't,” the
singer adds. (The video is embedded in the right panel of this

The 57-year-old Lauper is a strong
advocate for gay rights. Her True Colors Fund raises awareness and
funds for gay rights causes. Later this year, the group is expected
to open in Harlem the True
Color Residence, a permanent housing development for LGBT
homeless youth.
Lauper is among the growing list of
celebrities, professional athletes and prominent politicians to
record a video for the campaign that began last year.
The prospects that New York would
become the sixth state to legalize gay marriage brightened
considerably on Monday when proponents picked up the endorsements of
four previously undecided state Senators. Later in the day, a fifth
previously undecided senator, Roy McDonald, announced
he'll back the measure.
