Phoenix Suns player Grant Hill says
he's “happy” for Suns President Rick Welts' coming out gay.
Hill made his remarks Tuesday during a
CNN appearance to talk about his involvement in an
anti-gay bullying public service announcemnt released on Monday.
In the 30-second ad, Hill and teammate
Jared Dudley correct a ballplayer who says, “Your moves are just
gay.”
“Using 'gay' to mean dumb or stupid –
not cool,” Hill says.
“Words do have meanings,” Hill told
his CNN hosts. “And as a parent and seeing as sometimes kids can
be cruel to one another, you know, you want try to teach your
children to do the right thing.”
“It's just a sad state of affairs
that all that we've gone through as a country that we're still sort
of having to do this, but I think it's important.”
Hill also talked about his boss, who
announced on Sunday that he's gay in an interview with the New
York Times.
“You know it was really sad that he's
been living with this for so long,” Hill said. “It's also got to
be liberating that he's able to finally share with the world and tell
everybody and get that sort of monkey off his back.”
“And so, I was happy for him,” Hill
added. (The video is embedded in the right panel of this page.)
