Real estate mogul Donald Trump says he
doesn't feel good about gay marriage.
On
the Wednesday edition of Fox News' The
O'Reilly Factor, the billionaire entrepreneur reiterated his
opposition to allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry.
“I'm against it,” Trump told his
host. “I just don't feel good about it, I don't feel right about
it. I'm against it.”
“And I take a lot of heat because I
come from New York. You know for New York it's like, 'How can you be
against gay marriage?' But I'm opposed to gay marriage.”
When O'Reilly pointed out that
supporters argue that denying access to marriage violates the civil
rights of gay couples, Trump responded: “I say that we have other
problems in this country.”
“And I don't think a president should
be elected on gay marriage or not gay marriage, because we have some
very big problems,” he added.
Trump, who has said he'll announce in
June whether he'll run for president as a Republican, earlier told
the Des Moines Register that he opposes all forms of legal
recognition for gay couples, not just marriage.
“They should not be able to marry,”
he said.
“Trump said on marriage and civil
benefits, 'As of this moment, I would say no and no,'” the paper
reported.
