Rev. Jim Garlow, who currently heads the Skyline Wesleyan Church in La Mesa, California, says African-Americans are to thank for saving America from the bondage of gay marriage.

Garlow made his comments to Dr. James Dobson, the founder of the Christian conservative group Focus on the Family. Last year, Dobson launched Family Talk with Dr. James Dobson. The radio show airs on over 300 stations nationwide.

“Isn't it interesting that the African-Americans that were brought here against their will, coercively, in bondage, in chains, in a horrific experience called slavery,” Garlow told his host. “They were forced here and they end up being in state by state many cases, what has saved us from the bondage and enslavement that would come upon us if gay marriage actually passed in a state. California being a prime example where the African-Americans saved us from the bondage we would have faced.” (The audio is embedded in the right panel of this page.)

In 2008, Garlow and Dobson urged California voters to approve Proposition 8, the state's gay marriage ban, participating in a twelve-hour prayer and fasting session held in San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium.
