Actor Matt Damon says the upcoming film
based on the life of Liberace has been delayed until 2012.
Sixty-six-year-old Michael Douglas is
preparing to play the flamboyant pianist opposite Damon, who'll play
the part of Scott Thorson, Liberace's alleged lover.
Acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh
will direct the film based on a script by Richard LaGravenese, which
is based on Thorson's book Behind the Candelabra (My Life With
Liberace.)
The film was set to begin filming in
May or June, but in a new interview with the Orlando Sentinel,
Damon said filming won't start until sometime next year.
“This Liberace script is just
wonderful,” the 40-year-old Damon told the paper.
“Michael is going to be just
phenomenal in that part,” he added. “We're shooting that in
2012.”
Earlier,
Damon joked that he and Douglas have been sexting each other in
preparation for the role.
Already
filming is the Clint Eastwood-directed J.
Edgar,
which stars Leonardo DiCaprio as FBI director J. Edgar Hoover and
Armie Hammer as his alleged lover.
Damon stars opposite Emily Blunt in The
Adjustment Bureau, which opens on March 4.
