Singer Sir Elton John has been named
the top gay male musician by entertainment
website AfterElton.com.
“With more than 30 albums and 250
million records sold, Sir Elton John is one of the most celebrated
and successful musical artists in the world,” the website said.
“With his flamboyant style, raspy voice and an unerring ability to
get to the heart of every song he's written, Elton John has been
recognized with Grammy Awards, a Tony Award and even an Academy
Award.”
Sir
Elton and his husband, filmmaker David Furnish, became fathers on
Christmas Day. The
Rocket Man singer recently also made headlines advocating for
the legalization of gay marriage.
Other notables on the site's top 50
list include 29-year-old Grammy-nominated
Adam Lambert at number 10 and Ricky Martin, who's returning to
the limelight after taking a break to tend to parenting his twin
sons, Valentino and Matteo. Martin released Music + Soul + Sex
two weeks ago. He makes the list at number 9.
Rounding out the top 5 are Boy George,
The Village People, REM's Michael Stipe and Queen frontman Freddy
Mercury as the runner-up.
