Three-time U.S. National Figure Skating
champion John G. “Johnny” Weir's one-man book tour skated onto
HLN's Joy Behar Show on Thursday.
The skating champ with a knack for
being flamboyant is pitching his new tell-all memoir Welcome to my
World, which
was released on January 11. In the book, Weir talked about his
sexual orientation, a subject he previously refused to discuss.
Weir told Behar that he wrote the book
because he wanted to come out on his terms and rejected the idea that
gay activists had pushed him out of the closet.
“The pressure from the gay community
has been years old,” Weir said. “They've been trying to get me
to come out and be an activist and do all of these things which I so
respect and which are so important to the gay community, but it's not
me.”
“I wasn't a born activist. I'm an
athlete. I'm an entertainer, and that's what I do,” he added.
Last week, the
26-year-old entertainer told George Lopez that he likes masculine
men, such as rocker Justin Timberlake and actor Mario Lopez.
