Singer Sir Elton John and his partner
David Furnish appear holding their newborn baby son on the cover of
Us Weekly.
The couple became dads to Zachary
Jackson Levon Furnish-John on Christmas Day. The 7-pound, 15-ounce
baby was born in California via a surrogate.
In the cover story, Sir Elton and
Furnish talk about their long road to parenthood and what it's like
to finally hold their son.
“I think he's getting more handsome
by the day,” Sir Elton said, adding that newborns often “look a
bit like Winston Churchill, their faces all scrunched up!”
“It's a constant wonder that someone
that small could be so strong. The lust for life, the craving for
life when he first came out … that little thing could survive so
many things.”
Furnish said his partner was a natural
father: “He's proving to be a natural! I thought it might be
awkward – but [he's] diving in, rolling [his] sleeves up.”
And the couple added that neither know
who the biological father is.
“Neither of us cares,” Furnish
said. “He's our child. The important thing is that he's healthy
and happy and loved.”
The 63-year-old Sir Elton also made
headlines this week when he
said that he was “fed up” with the rhetoric of gay rights
opponents, including the church.
