In a new It Gets Better video,
Microsoft employees urge gay teens to hang in there.
The
It Gets Better Project encourages troubled gay teens to not cave
in to bullies, because it gets better. And in their 5-minute video,
the men and women of Microsoft let teens know exactly how it got
better for them.
“Things first really started to get
better when I got up the courage to tell the first other person that
I thought I was gay,” says a male employee.
“I was actually watching a
made-for-tv movie about Matthew Shepard with my brother that I
purposefully scheduled to make sure we were watching it together.
And I watched his reaction throughout the entire movie. But I was so
scared I couldn't say the words, so I actually had to pull out a sheet
of paper and write 'I'm gay' on it and hand it to him. And I cried
while I did. But he just hugged me and said, 'You're still my
brother, I love you, and it doesn't matter,'” a second employee
adds.
“At Microsoft, gay, lesbian and
transgender employees are just like anybody else,” Boris Erickson,
a program manager at Microsoft says. (The video is embedded in the
