Annette Bening and Mark Ruffalo, stars
of the lesbian moms flick The Kids Are All Right, have won New
York Film Critics Circle Awards for their performances.
Bening won the group's Best Actress
award for her portrayal of Nic, a woman raising two children with her
partner Jules, played by Julianne Moore.
The group gave their Best Supporting
Actor award to Ruffalo (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,
Shutter Island), who plays the biological father of the children
in the movie.
And the film's scriptwriters, Lisa
Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg, received the award in the Best
Screenplay category.
In the film, directed
by Cholodenko and available now on DVD, the family dynamics are
altered in unexpected ways when the couple's teenage children seek
out their biological father.
The group's annual awards presentation
will take place in New York City on January 10.
Moore
and Bening are considered front-runners to be nominated in this
year's Oscar Best Actress award. Also expected to be nominated
in the category is Natalie Portman (Star Wars) for her
portrayal of a lesbian ballerina in Director Darren Aronofsky's much
heralded thriller Black Swan.
