Chaz Bono says he's OK with his
mother's public references to him as a female.
The 41-year-old Bono, who was born
Chastity Bono to gay idol Cher and the late entertainer-politician
Sonny Bono, announced last June that he was eight months into gender
reassignment.
He's previously said that he was
“miserable” pretending to be a girl and that he “wasted”
years worrying about transitioning.
In one interview, Cher
said the transition has been hard “'cause she's still my girl.”
And
referred to Bono as “a very smart girl – boy!” in an interview
with fashion glossy Vanity
Fair.
Bono, however, told
GregInHollywood.com's Greg Hernandez that he's not bothered by the
slip-ups.
“You know, it doesn't thrill me, but
I understand it,” he said. “I understand that she's got 40 years
of using one set of pronouns and it's hard to get used to it. So I
try to be understanding about it and as long as she tries, that's
really what's important.”
“It'll happen over time,” Bono
added.
A documentary focusing on Bono's gender
reassignment, titled Becoming Chaz, will premiere at January's
Sundance Film Festival in Utah.
