Chris Armstrong on Friday filed a
misconduct complaint with the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission
against Michigan Assistant Attorney General Andrew Shirvell, the
Detroit Free Press reported.
Armstrong is the openly gay president
of the Michigan Student Assembly at the University of Michigan, who
Shirvell has attacked at his now private blog Chris Armstrong
Watch.
The move comes after Armstrong
withdrew his request for a personal protection order against
Shirvell, which prompted the civil servant to threaten
the school if it does not end its campus ban against him.
According to the complaint, Shirvell
violated the profession's code of conduct when he “repeatedly
harassed and defamed Armstrong in a relentless, six-month campaign of
lies, dishonesty, heckling, hate speech, and even job interference.”
Shirvell led protests against Armstrong
at his home and at university events. At his blog the official
accused Armstrong of preying on impressionable freshman, of being
“Satan's representative on the student assembly,” and labeled
Armstrong a Nazi, a racist, a liar and an elitist.
Shirvell made “obviously false,
disgusting, and utterly outlandish allegations about Armstrong's
lifestyle and personal behavior and by trying to get Armstrong ousted
from a summer internship on Capitol Hill,” the filing says.
Armstrong's complaint asks for an
investigation, discipline and possible disbarment.
The case attracted nationwide attention
when Shirvell
appeared on CNN's Anderson
Cooper 360
defending his right to campaign against Armstrong's “radical
homosexual agenda.”
Shirvell, who is currently on a leave
of absence, faces a November 5 disciplinary hearing.
