Independent New York gubernatorial
candidate Kristin Davis has attacked her Democratic rival's
commitment to gay marriage.
In Davis' new ad released Wednesday,
she suggests Andrew Cuomo is not committed to legalizing gay marriage
in the Empire State.
“It's outrageous that New York has
not legalized same-sex marriage,” she says in the ad. “Andrew
Cuomo says he supports it, but when the marriage equality bill was
before the Senate, he was asked to call three undecided Democratic
senators and declined.”
“A vote for me sends a strong message
to Cuomo: we demand gay marriage now,” Davis says, then adds the
sure-to-be catch phrase, “Vote Homo, not Cuomo.” (The video is

Earlier in the month, Cuomo
vowed he'd legalize gay marriage, if elected governor.
“I don't want to be the governor who
just proposes marriage equality,” Cuomo told attendees at the
Empire State Pride Agenda's Fall Dinner. “I don't want to be the
governor who lobbies for marriage equality. I don't want to be the
governor who fights for marriage equality. I want to be the governor
who signs the law that makes equality a reality in the state of New
York.”
Davis is not the only gubernatorial
candidate to throw the accusation at Cuomo.
In an email from Republican candidate
Carl Paladino titled Cuomoland: Andrew's words v. deeds, Tea
Party favorite Paladino blasts his rival for being “all but
invisible” during last year's debate. The email includes the
New York Times quote that Cuomo failed to call on three
fence-sitting senators before the chamber killed the bill.
Paladino, however, unlike Davis, does
not support gay marriage and created a firestorm of controversy
earlier this month when he said that his opposition to the
institution stems from not wanting children “brainwashed into
thinking that homosexuality” is acceptable.
