Zachary Quinto says “boundaries are
very important to me” as he refuses to answer questions about
whether he's gay.
Quinto, best known for playing a young
Spock in the 2009 J. J. Abram's directed Star Trek reboot,
didn't
talk about the subject in a New
York Times
interview.
The 33-year-old actor's portrayal of
openly gay Iranian-American Sasan on the short-lived VH1 sitcom so
noTORIous starring Tori Spelling got tongues wagging in 2006.
And an increasingly visible profile advocating for gay rights coupled
with a new Off Broadway gay role are stoking those gay rumors once
again.
Quinto plays Louis Ironson in the
revival of Tony Kushner's groundbreaking AIDS drama Angels in
America.
He's also an enthusiastic supporter of
gay marriage and repeal of “Don't Ask, Don't Tell,” the Pentagon
policy that bans open gay service. And has also spoken out about the
recent rash of gay teens bullied to death.
But he's not speaking about whether
he's gay or straight, telling the Times: “The fact that
these things are such hot-button issues right now, socially and
politically, I would much rather talk about that than talk about who I
sleep with,” Quinto said. “I would love to be a voice in this
maelstrom of chaos and obsessive celebrity infatuation that says,
'Let's talk about something that matters.'”
