Gay GOP group GOProud announced
Thursday a media buy that goes after gay allies House Speaker Nancy
Pelosi, California Senator Barbara Boxer and openly gay Massachusetts
Congressman Barney Frank, the New York Times reported.
The 30-second television spot, expected
to cost in the $50,000 range, spoofs cabler Bravo's Real
Housewives reality franchise.
“If you thought the housewives were
dysfunctional, wait until you meet the real Democrats of Washington
D.C.” a male announcer says.
“They're catty!” he says as Frank
is heard saying, “Trying to have a conversation with you would be
like trying to argue with a dining room table.”
“They're arrogant!” he says as
Boxer is heard telling a voter, “You know, do me a favor. Could
you say senator instead of ma'am? It's just a thing. I worked so
hard to get that title.”
“And they're in charge!” he adds as
Pelosi is heard saying, “The American people voted for change.”
“Under Democrats, reality bites,”
he concludes. (The video is embedded in the right panel of this
page.)
The group's chairman, Christopher
Barron, said gay men and lesbians would benefit from new leadership.
Barron said firing Democrats is needed
to grow our economy and “create more jobs for gay people.”
The ads will run in the lawmakers' home
states of California and Massachusetts, and New York and Hawaii.
