Pop singer Ke$ha's newest single We
R Who We R is dedicated to gay teens.
The first song off her upcoming mini
album Cannibal was released on the Internet on Thursday and
the 23-year-old singer-songwriter told EW.com that it was inspired in
part by the recent spate of gay teens bullied to death.
“I wanted to inspire people,” she
said, “to be themselves. It's a celebration of any sort of quirks
or eccentricities.”
Ke$ha was one of the first celebrities
to produce a video for the It Gets Better campaign, which reaches out
to troubled gay teens contemplating suicide.
“No matter if you are gay, lesbian,
bisexual, transgender, however you are choosing to live is beautiful
and you have my full support and all of my love. And be yourself and
it will get better,” an emotional Ke$ha says in the video. (The
video is embedded in the right panel of this page.)
Cannibal will feature 9 tracks
and drops November 22.
Openly gay celebrities who have also
joined the campaign include Project
Runway
celebrity judge Tim Gunn, talk
show host Ellen DeGeneres,
How I Met Your Mother star
Neil Patrick Harris and former 'NSYNCer Lance Bass.
