Freshman Rutgers University student Molly Wei announced Tuesday she's innocent of charges related to Tyler Clementi's suicide, CBS News reported.

Clementi is the 18-year-old gay Rutgers student who jumped off the George Washington Bridge to his death nearly two weeks ago after learning that his roommate, Dharun Ravi, had secretly streamed live video of him having sex with another man onto the Internet.

Ravi and Wei, both 18, have been charged with invading Clementi's privacy.

In a statement released Tuesday, Wei's attorneys said she's “a wonderful, caring and talented young woman with a bright future.”

Nearly 1,000 mourners attended a silent vigil in memory of Clementi at the university's main campus on Saturday.

Clementi's death is the latest in a string of recent incidents, four in September alone, in which teens took their own lives after being bullied because they were gay.

New Jersey officials have said that they are considering charging the students with committing a hate crime.

Ravi and Wei face up to five years in prison if convicted of the privacy charges.
