The upcoming BBC lesbian drama Lip
Service has yet to premiere, but it is already being compared to
the groundbreaking gay drama Queer as Folk.
The six-episode drama follows the lives
of a group of 20-something lesbians.
Frankie's (played by Ruta Gedmintas,
Spooks) return from America to Glasgow for the funeral of her
beloved aunt creates a stir among her friends. Former lover Cat
(Laura Fraser, Vanilla Sky) becomes anxious when she learns
that her old flame has returned after a two year absence. Exciting –
but wild – Frankie quickly gets the town talking.
According
to News of the World, the show's explicit content is
certain to become water cooler fodder.
“Lip Service has the same buzz as
Queer as Folk but might prove too edgy,” one insider
reportedly said. “There are a lot of naked sex scenes between
women.”
“Bosses think it's too explicit for
BBC1 – so they're starting it on Three,” the source added.
Lip Service premieres on October
12 on BBC Three.
