The oddsmakers are liking the chances
that the Fox comedy hit Glee and Jane Lynch will sweep the
Emmys. But critics are divided on whether an openly gay man will
win.
Chat show host Jimmy Fallon will host
the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday. Fallon follows
openly gay Neil Patrick Harris' vaunted turn as ringmaster.
The race for the best comedy show
includes two television series that feature openly gay characters.
Both shows – Glee and ABC's Modern Family – are
strong contenders for the prize.
On Glee, openly gay Chris Colfer
plays Kurt Hummel, a gay student at McKinley High. And the role of
sharp-tongue coach Sue Sylvester is played by recently gay married
Jane Lynch.
Modern Family features a gay
family. Gay dads Mitchell and Cameron (played by openly gay Jesse
Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, respectively) are among the
three couples featured on the sitcom.
“It's likely Emmy voters will get
caught up in the initial Glee wave, and give it the prize,”
says The Oregonian.
Lynch is by far the critics' choice for
taking home an Emmy for her work on Glee.
