Glee creator Ryan Murphy has
criticized Modern Family producers for censoring physical
affection between its gay characters.
While he didn't mention Modern
Family by name, Murphy was clearly aiming for ABC's Sunday night
comedy hit.
“I hate it on TV shows, and there's
one show that I won't name right now, where it's like 'Why aren't
these characters kissing? Don't they have a child?' That's
ridiculous to me. I don't understand it,” Murphy told reporters
after participating in a panel at the Television Critics Association
Press Tour in Beverly Hills on Monday, celebrity
website GregInHollywood.com reported.
Murphy, who is openly gay, is the
creative force behind Fox's musical comedy hit Glee, which
includes two openly gay actors, Jane Lynch as coach Sue Sylvester and
Chris Colfer, who plays Kurt Hummel, a gay student at McKinley High.

fans have been clamoring for an onscreen kiss between gay couple
Cameron (played by Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (played by openly
gay Jesse Tyler Ferguson) since the May 5 episode titled Airport
2010, in which Cameron and Mitchell were relegated to a hug after
they argued while heterosexual couple Phil (Ty Burrell) and Claire
(Julie Bowen) kissed and made up.
In response, producers released a
statement that said an episode is already in the works that will
address the lack of physical affection between the gay characters,
and asked everyone, in the words of Phil, to just “chillax.”
Murphy criticized that decision, as
well.
“I would never do that,” he said.
“I would make it very organic and do it several times and not make
it a stunt.”
Murphy also announced that he'll be
directing an upcoming gay kiss on Glee between Santana (played
by Naya Rivera) and Brittany (Heather Morris).
