Gay activists Robin McGehee and Army
Lt. Dan Choi are among a group of seven activists arrested in Las
Vegas protesting against Nevada Senator Harry Reid.
DC
gay weekly Metro Weekly is reporting that as many as seven
GetEQUAL
protesters have been taken into custody or detained.
The group blocked traffic on the Las
Vegas strip with a large banner that read: “REID NO ONE CAN DO
MORE? GETEQUAL.ORG.” A second smaller banner hanging from a
pedestrian overpass read “REID PASS ENDA NOW.”
The action stopped traffic for about 10
minutes at about 1:15PM, gay
glossy The Advocate reported.
The Employment Non-Discrimination Act
(ENDA), a bill that would ban workplace discrimination on the basis
of sexual orientation and gender identity (transgender protections),
stalled out in committee earlier this year.
McGehee led six other GetEQUAL
activists in interrupting a House committee hearing to demand
movement of the bill in March.
Holding a sign a read “GetEQUAL Pass
ENDA,” McGehee asked Chairman George Miller to end the delays.
