Outfest, Los Angeles' gay and lesbian
film festival, will honor Jane Lynch for her gay advocacy.
The gay film fest opens Thursday with a
reception at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles.
Lynch will be presented with the 14th
annual Achievement Award, the group's highest honor celebrating an
actors' contributions to LGBT film and media.
“As an actor, comedienne and longtime
activist for gay rights issues, Jane has had a profound impact on
both mainstream and LGBT audiences,” Kirsten Schaffer, executive
director of Outfest, told The Hollywood Reporter. “Through
her roles in both independent films and blockbuster hits, as well as
television, she continually demonstrates her brilliant comedic
timing. Jane is funny, fearless and we are proud to honor her this
year for her incredible talent, passion and her enduring advocacy for
equal rights.”
Lynch stars as Sue Sylvester, the
sharp-tongued coach of McKinley High whose mission is to ruin the
glee club singers, on Fox's runaway musical comedy hit Glee.
The series was recently picked up for a third season.
Between 2004 and 2009 she played the
recurring role of a Joyce Wischnia, a high-powered lesbian attorney,
on HBO's groundbreaking drama The L Word.
Lynch,
49, married
Dr. Lara Embry, 41, on Memorial Day at the Blue Heron restaurant in
Massachusetts.
