A scheduled Wednesday final committee
markup on the House version of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act
(ENDA) has been postponed.
An Education & Labor Committee
spokesperson said lawmakers are working on “legal and technical”
issues. The spokesperson said the markup is still expected to take
place before the end of the year.
ENDA would outlaw employment
discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender
identity.
A final markup committee meeting
usually signals a majority of members are prepared to send the
legislation to the House floor for a final vote.
The
legislation is easily expected to win approval in the House, but
support in the Senate, where Democrats hold a slim majority, remains
shaky.
