Ready, set, drag! How does a
man compete at becoming America's next hot, glamorous thing? The
answer, we're certain, will be revealed when RuPaul's Drag Race
hits MTV Networks' gay and lesbian cable channel Logo on Monday,
February 2.
RuPaul, America's first drag queen
superstar, will star as judge and jury to 9 men competing to fill her
high heels. Watch out! And, no matter how you swing it,
she's not messing around: “Hey Tyra, step back girl. The queen has
returned. And you can tell Heidi: Clear the runway. Miss RuPaul is
back to pump some 'realness' into reality!”
Thousands of hopefuls posted their
online profiles, which consisted of a head shot and video, at
rupaulsdragrace.com, where visitors voted for their favorite. The
online winner of that drag lap proceeded directly to RuPaul's pit
stop.
The drag queens will face a barrage of
fashion-related and talent challenges in their quest to win a prize
package worth $20,000. Joining in the judging will be a bevy of
celebrities including designer Bob Mackie, Destiny's Child singer
Michelle Williams, and Hollywood actress Lucy Lawless, to name just a
few.
While the contest gives viewers an
insider's look at RuPaul's outrageous world of drag, producers say
the show will also tackle some of the real life prejudices female
impersonators face.
And what talents will RuPaul be checker
flagging? “To be a winner on this show the contestants need to be
a fashion designer, an American idol, and a top model all rolled up
into one,” RuPaul said. “And they definitely have to be smarter
than a fifth grader.”
“Gentlemen, start your engines. May
the best woman win!” she announces in the premiere episode.
