Actor Josh Hutcherson says that much
work remains in the fight for LGBT equality.
Hutcherson, a co-founder of the
Straight But Not Narrow campaign, told E! Online that despite the
recent Supreme Court ruling striking down gay marriage bans in all 50
states, his group still has a lot of work to do.
“There is still so much to do,”
said
Hutcherson (The Hunger Games, The Kids Are Alright).
“It's not only even about
legislation. It starts there by making it legally acceptable. But
socially, there is so much prejudice and bias that is integrated into
our culture and that's going to be around for a while.”
“I hope that one day in my lifetime
we get to close the door on this group, but there's a lot more work
to do,” he said.
He added that hearing from young teens
whose lives his group has affected has been rewarding and praised
Caitlyn Jenner for her advocacy.
“I think it's fantastic for the LGBT
community,” the 22-year-old actor said. “We need more people
like that to share their stories, because once [transgender] people
become more of the norm, it will be easier for people to socially
accept it.”
