Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said this week that gay marriage was a dead issue for the Republican Party.

Trump made his comments in a cover story for The Hollywood Reporter.

When asked if he's attended the wedding of a gay couple, Trump, who remains opposed to marriage equality, answered “yes.”

“Yes, I have,” Trump said. “[Broadway theater owner] Jordan Roth. You know Jordan, right? Great guy.”

“So is this a dead issue for the GOP at this point?”

“Some people have hopes of passing amendments, but it's not going to happen. Congress can't pass simple things, let alone that,” Trump answered. “So anybody that's making that an issue is doing it for political reasons. The Supreme Court ruled on it.”
