Appearing Friday on ABC's The View,
openly gay comedienne Lea DeLaria announced the date of her upcoming
nuptials to fiance Chelsea Fairless.
The couple announced their engagement
in February.
DeLaria, who plays Carrie “Big Boo”
Black on the Netflix comedy Orange is the New Black, said that
the couple planned on marrying in early 2017 and explained the
reasons behind the lengthy engagement.
“As you can see, Chelsea has much
style; she's in the fashion industry,” DeLaria said, pointing to
her fiance who was seated in the audience. “She wants to plan the
whole thing herself. And it's going to take a while to do that.”
“I need it to be January 8 'cause my
parents have both passed and that's their wedding anniversary. So,
it's my way of having them there,” she said, then added that she
might cry. (The video is embedded on this page. Visit
