Jim Daly, president of the Christian
conservative group Focus on the Family, recently compared gay men and
lesbians getting married to adultery.
In an interview with the Harvard
Political Review, Daly weighed in on the Supreme Court's ruling
striking down gay marriage bans in all 50 states.
When asked to comment on Christians who
have embraced the high court's decision, Daly answered that it's
understandable that people “are feeling pressure to conform.”
“[I]t seems to be an ample amount of
[Biblical] evidence to say that in our human sexuality, God has a
specific design.”
“It's not meant to be mean spirited
or bigoted or any of that,” Daly
continued. “It's simply saying Scripture seems to be clear.
God doesn't want us to have sex outside of marriage. That's called
adultery. He doesn't want us to have sex with people of the same
sex. That's called homosexuality and neither of those are
appropriate under God's design for human sexuality.”
“We don't mean to be mean spirited
towards the adulterer. We don't mean to be mean spirited towards the
homosexual community. All we're saying is 'This is what we read in
the Scripture and this is what we're trying to live by.' … I think
that's going to create legal conflict, social conflict, family
conflict and it's starting.”
Daly took over the reigns at Focus on
the Family after its founder, James Dobson, departed in 2010.
