The Florida man sought in connection
with the murder of India Clarke, a transgender woman, turned himself
in to police on Wednesday.
Keith Lamayne Gaillard, 18, is being
held on a first-degree murder charge in the death of Clarke, 25.
Clarke's body was found on Tuesday,
July 21 in a Tampa park. Authorities determined that she died from a
shot to the head.
Deputies put out a warrant for
Gaillard's arrest after an autopsy found his DNA under Clarke's
fingernails and in a condom found inside Clarke's car.
Gaillard is being held on $275,000
bail.
Clarke is the 10th
transgender murder victim in the United States so far this year,
though local officials refuse to categorize Clarke as transgender.
“We can just tell you he had women's
clothing on at the time,” county spokesman Larry McKinnon told
