A majority of Utahns oppose the Supreme
Court's ruling striking down gay marriage bans in all 50 states.
According to a Utah
Policy poll of 610 people conducted by Dan Jones &
Associates, 37 percent of respondents support the high court's
decision, while 58 percent say they're opposed.
A large share of Republicans (84%)
oppose the decision, while 90 percent of Democrats favor it.
Support was highest among young people,
though support only exceeded 50 percent among adults in the 25- to
34-year-old age group.
Pollsters also found that 74 percent of
Utahns believe wedding-related businesses should be allowed to refuse
services to gay couples.
Only 19 percent of respondents
disagreed with the following question: “Do you believe that those
private businesses that don't wish to provide services to same-sex
weddings should be liable to civil actions, or should they be given
special protection under the law?”
