Roy Moore, the chief justice of the
Alabama Supreme Court, said Monday that he hopes war doesn't break
out over the Supreme Court's recent ruling striking down state bans
on marriage in all 50 states.
Moore, a vocal supporter of the bans,
has previously called on state officials to defy the courts on the
issue.
In an interview with social
conservative Randall Terry, Moore said that religious “persecution
is just beginning” because Americans will be “forced to accept
evil” and “condone sodomy,” which will lead to a massive
revolt.
“I hope we don't have a war,” Moore
said. “I hope we don't have conflicts. But we definitely need
to recognize that same-sex marriage is something that has not existed
on a government level.”
Moore also advised governors to ignore
the ruling, because it “doesn't follow the constitution.”
State officials, Moore said, should not
“obey an unlawful order.”
“I think it is going to destroy the
nation. We're supposed to be a free people and if this carries out
the way I think it's going to carry out, it's going to be very
doubtful,” he added.
