James Franco plays gay again in the
upcoming thriller Wild Horses.
In the film, Franco plays Ben Briggs,
the estranged son of Scott Briggs (played by Robert Duvall).
The elder Briggs becomes the prime
suspect in the murder of a local boy when Texas Ranger Samantha Payne
(Luciana Duvall) reopens a 15-year-old missing persons case.
“With the unexpected return of his
estranged gay son Ben (Franco), Briggs must find a way to either
silence the law for good, or come to terms with the hidden
relationship between Ben and the boy that he tried to end years
ago,” the film's description reads.
Most recently, Franco played Michael
Glatze, a former gay rights advocate who two years after appearing on
the cover of TIME publicly renounced being gay, in the biopic I Am
Michael opposite Zachary Quinto. Other notable gay roles include
playing Sal Mineo, considered the first major Hollywood actor to come
out gay, in Sal, beat poet Allen Ginsberg in Howl and
Scott Smith, Harvey Milk's lover, in Milk.
Wild
Horses opens on Friday.
