Singer Sam Smith says that he wants to
be an international “voice for gay youth.”
The 23-year-old Smith, who came out
publicly last year, appears on the cover of French gay glossy TÊTU.
Smith told the publication that his
recently-created foundation would help people around the globe who
are struggling to come out.
“I would like to become a voice for
gay youth in difficulty around the world,” Smith
said. “I just created a foundation.”
He added that he likes the thought of
homophobes enjoying his music without being aware that he's gay.
“I like the idea that there may be
homophobic guys who listen to my record and they have no clue that
I'm gay!” he said.
Smith previously revealed that was the
victim of violence because of his sexuality.
“When I moved to London, I got
punched in the neck walking back from work,” he said. “It was
definitely homophobic. I was on the phone speaking quite loudly and
had pink earphone on, so it was pretty clear I was gay.”
