Christian conservative James Dobson
claims gay marriage will be “the death knell of religious liberty
in America.”
Dobson, the founder of Focus on the
Family, which he led until 2003, is the host of Family Talk with
Dr. James Dobson, which is broadcast on over 300 radio stations
nationwide.
Last month, he predicted civil
war if the Supreme Court strikes down state bans on gay marriage.
During a speech at the annual National
Day of Prayer, which is overseen by his wife Shirley Dobson, Dobson
warned of dire implication for the United States should the Supreme
Court strike down the bans.
Allowing gay couples to marry in all 50
states would undermine, compromise and weaken the family, he stated.
This decision, like Roe v. Wade,
is going to “divide us further,” Dobson
warned.
“How are parents to teach their small
children what the Bible has to say about this when they must put them
on a school bus and go to school and be taught the opposite by those
in authority over them,” he wondered.
“It has implications for the school.
Textbooks are going to have to be re-written and re-illustrated to
comply with the law,” he added. “It reaches every corner, every
dimension of society. We are talking about the death knell of
religious liberty in America.”
