Laverne Cox has been named one of the
“World's Most Beautiful Women” by People.
The 30-year-old Cox is included in the
glossy's annual World's Most Beautiful Woman issue. Last year, Cox
became the first openly transgender actress to be nominated for a
primetime Emmy. She's also graced the cover of TIME
magazine, where she discussed her role in the transgender
movement.
She said that the issue makes people
uncomfortable because it leaves them vulnerable: “[I]f we are in a
position where we have to begin to question this very basic idea of
'a man has a penis and a woman has a vagina,' then that's a lot of
vulnerability.”
While People editors put actress Sandra
Bullock on the cover, they praised Cox as a skilled actress and an
outspoken activist.
“The actress has left a big
impression on Hollywood (and America) in a very short amount of
time,” People
wrote. “Cox's skillful performance as Sophia on Orange is
the New Black and her work advocating for transgender women make
her one of our boldest beauties yet.”
