Florida Senator Marco Rubio, a
candidate for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, has met with members of
the Log Cabin Republicans, which represents gay conservatives.
According to Reuters,
the meetings, attended my members of Rubio's staff, are being held
quarterly.
The meetings “go back some time,”
Log Cabin Executive Director Gregory Angelo said.
Angelo said discussions include
legislation, issues and opportunities to “partner on.”
Rubio, who's opposed to marriage
equality, recently said that he would attend the same-sex wedding of
a loved one. On Sunday's talk show circuit, Rubio said that he did
not believe being gay is a choice.
Some interpreted Rubio's remarks as a
softening in his views and social conservatives criticized him.
“By believing gays [are] born that
way, Rubio grants anti-genetics credibility to gayness as the
equivalent of race,” AFA's Bryan Fischer tweeted. “Not the guy.”
