A 16-year-old transgender teen who
talked about being the victim of bullying at school has killed
herself.
The North County LGBTQ Resource Center
on Thursday held a memorial for Taylor Alesana.
“Taylor had many friends here at the
Center but the support she received was not enough to counter the
very difficult time she had at Fallbrook High School,” the
group said. “As a transgender teen she was constantly picked
upon, bullied and attacked by her peers. With few adults to turn to,
and with no support from her school, her life became too difficult.”
“Taylor was a beautiful and
courageous girl, and all she wanted was acceptance.”
In a video posted on YouTube.com,
Alesana discussed her family's recent move to Fallbrook, located 70
miles north of San Diego, where she said she was “living my life as
a girl now.”
“I made a couple [friends], went from
group to group,” she said. “The group would usually kick me out
after they realized, 'Oh, you're different. We can't have you
hanging out with us.'”
Max Disposti, executive director of the
North County LGBTQ Resource Center, said that Alesana was supportive of
others during group meetings.
“She was very outspoken and had
incredibly positive energy. She was helping others as she was
struggling,” Disposti told the
AP.
