Kentucky senator and potential GOP
presidential candidate Rand Paul suggested this week that gay
marriage was the result of a “moral crisis” and called for a
“revival” in America.
Paul, who describes himself as a
“libertarian conservative,” made the comments during a prayer
breakfast at the Capitol Hill Club in Washington, D.C., according to
the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN).
“Don’t always look to Washington to
solve anything,” Paul
said. “In fact, the moral crisis we have in our country, there
is a role for us trying to figure out things like marriage, there's
also a moral crisis that allows people to think that there would be
some sort of other marriage.”
“We need a revival in the country,”
Paul added. “We need another Great Awakening with tent revivals of
thousands of people saying, 'reform or see what’s going to happen
if we don’t reform.'”
Previously, Paul said that allowing gay
couples to marry “offends” him and “a lot of people.”
