The National Organization for Marriage
(NOM) has praised fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano
Gabbana's opposition to gay marriage and gay families.
The openly gay men behind the fashion
brand Dolce & Gabbana have been widely criticized for remarks
made over the weekend.
“The only family is the traditional
one,” the business partners and former lovers told Italian magazine
Panorama.
“No chemical offspring and rented uterus. Life has a natural
flow; there are things that cannot be changed.”
“Procreation must be an act of love.
I call children of chemistry synthetic children.”
Singers Elton John and Ricky Martin and
television producer Ryan Murphy (Glee, American Horror Story),
all of whom are gay and raising children, condemned the comments.
“I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana
ever again,” John wrote in an Instagram post.

“Bravo to Dolce and Gabbana for
daring to speak the truth; they are as bold in their speech as they
are in their designs, and deserve to be applauded,” NOM wrote in a
blog post. “While others will continue to vent their disagreement,
the billionaire pair are wonderful advocates for the true definitions
of marriage and family.”
