CNN's Don Lemon says coming out gay was
the “scariest thing” he ever did.
The 49-year-old Lemon, host of CNN
Tonight, came out in his 2011 264-page memoir Transparent,
making him the third open gay news personality behind MSNBC's Rachel
Maddow and Thomas Roberts. Since that time, ABC's Robin Roberts and
CNN's Anderson Cooper have also come out.
Lemon discussed his coming out during
an appearance on The
Meredith Vieira Show.
“It was the scariest thing I ever
did,” Lemon told host Meredith Vieira.
“After my mom said, 'I'm okay with
you saying everything. I'm okay with who you are. I love you,' then
who cares ...” Lemon said to a round of applause.
When asked whether he received negative
reaction, Lemon answered, “I didn't care. It doesn't matter.”
