Broadway star Kyle Dean Massey will
play an openly gay singer-songwriter on the ABC hit series Nashville.
Deadline
Hollywood reported that Massey will join Nashville,
now in its third season, in the recurring role of Kevin
Bicks.
The 33-year-old Massey is openly gay.
In 2010, he recorded an It Gets Better
video in which he said that he was a living example that it gets
better for troubled LGBT youth.
“There were no gay people in my town
[Jonesboro, Arkansas] at all,” he said in the video. “You were
led to believe that it was like subversive or wrong or evil. … I
was just made to believe that I was odd and weird.” (The video is

Massey's Broadway credits include
stints in Wicked, Pippin and Next to Normal.
Television roles include The Good Wife and Inside Amy
Schumer.
