Matt Bomer won a Golden Globe Award on
Sunday for his performance in the HBO drama The
Normal Heart.
Director Ryan Murphy's film adaptation
of Larry Kramer's Tony-winning play about the early days of the AIDS
pandemic in New York City premiered over Memorial Day weekend on
premium cable network HBO. It is currently available for purchase or
rent.
In The Normal Heart, Bomer
(White Collar) plays Felix Tuner, a closeted fashion reporter
for The New York Times who succumbs to the disease. Bomer has
previously said that he lost at least 40 pounds preparing for the
role.
“To all the people we lost from this
disease, I just want to say: We love you. We remember you,” Bomer,
37, said
in accepting the award.
He also thanked his husband Simon Halls
and their 3 children – Kit, Walker and Henry – for their support:
“I love you. Thank you for putting up with me when I was 130 lbs.
and really grumpy when you ate pizza in front of me.”
