Steven L. Anderson, pastor at Faithful
Word Baptist Church in Tempe, Arizona, has released a 60-minute film
which “proves” that homosexuality is not a harmless “alternative
lifestyle.”
Anderson made headlines earlier this
month when he told his congregation that an AIDS-free world is
possible by Christmas. “[I]f you execute the homos like God
recommends, you wouldn't have all this AIDS running rampant,” he
said.
In various interviews he added that the
Bible commands the government to execute gays.
AIDS: The Judgment of God
combines news clips from the early days of the AIDS epidemic when
facts were scarce with sermons delivered by Anderson.
The film, however, quickly moves away
from its claim that gay men somehow caused AIDS to arguing that the
Bible and God are opposed to gays.
“So is this the only area they're
messed up in?” Anderson
rhetorically asks his congregation. “I mean other than that
they're great people, if it weren't for this one thing, that they
lust after other men. Is that what the Bible says? No, it says that
they are also filled with all unrighteousness. … Fornication, that
goes without saying, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness, full of
envy … murder. That's what the Bible says, they're filled with
murder. He says debase, deceit, malignity, whisperers, backbiters …
haters of God.”
The film ends with Anderson coming
unglued on his pulpit screaming, “No homos will ever be allowed on
this church as long as I'm the pastor here. Never!”
A DVD of the film is available for
$12.95.
