On World AIDS Day, December 1, Apple is
donating a portion of its store and online sales to Bono's (RED)
campaign.
On Monday, Apple retail outlets around
the globe changed the color of their logos to red in recognition of
World AIDS Day.
On November 28, Black Friday, Apple
launched an Apps for (RED) section in its App Store with all proceeds
going to the Global Fund to Fights AIDS and included (RED) gift cards
with some purchases. A portion of sales on World AIDS Days will also
be donated.
Apple and (RED) began collaborating in
2006. But this year's 2-week campaign is its “biggest fundraising
push yet,” according to Apple CEO Tim Cook.
“Apple is a proud supporter of (RED)
because we believe the gift of life is the most important gift anyone
can give,” Cook said. “For eight years, our customers have been
helping fight AIDS in Africa by funding life-saving treatments which
are having a profoundly positive impact.”
