Democrat Maura Healey made history
Tuesday when she won the race to become the next Massachusetts
Attorney General.
Healey will be the nation's first
openly gay state attorney general.
Healey, a former assistant attorney
general, faced off against Republican John Miller, a lawyer who ran
unopposed for the GOP nomination.
Chad Griffin, president of the Human
Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation's largest LGBT rights advocate,
called Healey an “inspirational trailblazer.”
“Maura Healey is one of the
staunchest advocates for equality we have in this country, and we
join her in celebrating her historic victory tonight,” Griffin said
in a statement. “As the nation's first openly gay attorney
general, she is an inspirational trailblazer and will fight to
guarantee civil rights and legal equality for all people of
Massachusetts.”
