Out singer Melissa Etheridge believes
sex is better since she turned 50.
Etheridge, whose latest studio album
This
is M.E. arrives on Tuesday, said in a wide-ranging interview
with AARP
The Magazine that sex after
50 is better.
“The sex is
better!” Etheridge, 53, said. “Seriously, I'm healthier and in
loving myself I attract a different kind of person now.”
In May, Etheridge,
a breast cancer survivor, married Linda Wallem.
She previously was
in a domestic partnership that ended badly with actress Tammy Lynn
Michaels, with whom she has two children. Etheridge also has two
children with former partner Julie Cypher.
“If I could, I
would have chosen not to go through cancer or my divorces in public,”
she said. “Yet you can't say, 'I'm only gong to let the public see
the good stuff.' Whenever I sit down with someone, I need to know
that I'm not hiding anything.”
On coming out,
Etheridge said her father was “fine” with her sexuality.
“[H]e just wanted
me to be happy. His passing propelled me into this place of needing
to be who I am, because I wasn't going to be happy any other way,”
she said.
